About Us

Stocksbridge Radio Car Club began life as a club in Chapeltown, Sheffield as a place for Electric Stock Car drivers to gather in practice for larger meetings at the Urmston club nr Manchester, eventually over time the club moved to Stocksbridge in the early 1990's racing indoors at the then relatively new Smithy Moor Community Centre on Cross Lane in Stocksbridge. Some of the best 1/12 Stock Car drivers of the time raced at the club on Thursday evenings including Gary McMullen, Alan Crossland, and racing returnee Mark Rodgers. The cars raced were mainly Mardave based cars including the popular 1/12 Mini Stock and a hefty oval track was used during this time (virtually indestructable!) Around 1996 the club moved from Smithy Moor to the larger hall of the Inman Pavilion, Garden Village, Stocksbridge - classes were diversified to include two and four wheel drive off road cars and the new 'scale touring cars' that we now run today.

After a few changes in leadership, from October 1998 the club has been run by Keith and Peter Ellis to the present day. Here are a few highlights we have achieved so far :

* New Primatrack GT Carpet in April 2003 replacing multi surface floor and carpet

* Use of PVC Downpipe from 2003 as track markings to aid racing and minimise marshalling

* BBK Race Program and Transponder system purchased in 2004 with contributions from members

* 1/18 Micro Touring racing from 2001 to 2005

* Mardave V12 racing from 2004 to 2007

* Marshall Bibs purchased in 2007 to aid visability of Marsahlls

*Continual Improvement to our Sunday Track with new Carpet as funds allow

*1/18 Off Road Racing from 2006 to 2007

* 1/12 Circuit Racing from 2008

* Affiliation to the BRCA from 2005 onwards

After much discussion we recently made the move to racing Touring Cars with rubber tyres and additive to fall in line with other local clubs and encourage new drivers to racing, and this has been shown to improve consistancy and lap times during the meeting duration.
