Welcome to Stocksbridge Radio Car Club!
Unstoppable Dave Allen
For this meeting we decided to race only Touring Cars to avoid clashing with Chesterfield's 1/12 meeting, so this meant numbers were down slightly, however, as usual a large flowing track was laid out for those that did appear.
Round 1 of qualifying saw regular racer Lee Dyson at the top on 19 laps with his Xray T2 '007, ahead of Dave Allen's Cyclone on 17 laps and Chris Ratcliffe in third with his Xray T2 also on 17 laps. Round 2 saw Dave Allen
claim the top spot on 20 laps, with Peter Ellis moving up to second place with his Serpent car on 19 laps, three seconds ahead of Lee who dropped to third. Dave Allen then improved even further onto 21 laps to be two laps ahead of the rest, Lee Dyson was closest with a quick 19 lap run, dropping Peter
to third overall. The fourth and final round saw Dave Allen improve by two hundredths (yes count them!) of a second to stay top with some very consistant running. Peter improved his time but ended up just half a second off Lee in
third place. Further down the order we saw Shawn Robinson taking pole in the 'B' final on 17 laps, ahead of Chris Ratcliffe and Michael Lau's Yokomo. Michael had a poor run of qualifying due to
a few issues, mainly his dampers becoming disconected at times, but a 'B' final result was still reasonable. Keith Ellis took pole position in the 'C' final with his TC3 ahead of Richard Thorley's Xray and Aidan Speight's Schumacher Mission. Congratulations
should also go to Tom Donson for squeezing into the 'B' final on 15 laps.
With Stuart Smith retiring prior to the start of the 'C' final with steering problems and Elliot Ford also unable to take the start, it was down to a three horse race. Pole man, Keith Ellis looked in control
throughout with his TC3 , but Richard Thorley was never far behind. In the end Keith took the win by just over a second from Richard with Aidan Speight finishing third, all three drivers on 14 laps. The 'B' final saw Shawn Robinson in the lead
for the first three laps until Chris Ratcliffe took advantage of an error by Shawn to take the lead which he held to the end. Chris took the win on 17 laps ahead of Shawn on 16 laps, with Michael Lau consolidating his starting position with third on 15 laps.
In the 'A' final yet again it was Dave Allen's Hot Bodies car that leapt way out in front, showing that brush motor powered cars can easily mix it and beat the brushless cars. Nobody got close to Dave and his average lap was almost a second faster than the chasing bunch! Lee and Peter were going flat out all the way
to try and keep pace but to no avail, Lee made it onto 20 laps ending up second with Peter missing the cut on a fast 19 lap run. Peter Gill took fourth overall with Dave Eastwood dropping to fifth.
The next meeting will again be touring cars only with 1/12 returning at the end of the month.
